Pyre is an engaging, fun, and incredibly interesting genre-defying masterpiece. It's story sections are filled with relatable and interesting characters with unique perspectives on this work of exile, the downside. I always relished the opportunity to learn more about the exiles in my party, how they managed to come to the downside, and what they planned to do should they return to the commonwealth. Additionally, the ability to rollover proper names and places and get a brief description allows you to follow conversations without exposition, or catch up if you've forgotten a key place or figure.
Gameplay sections were incredibly engaging, and by far my favorite part of the game. Pyre's interesting 3 - 3 "combat" system provides interesting tactical choices while still being a show of skill. The amount of mechanical depth present gives you an easy-to-learn and difficult-to-master system that never stopped being more and more interesting with each match. Additionally, the choice to make you liberate one of your characters from exile means that you're constantly forced to pick new characters, and by the time you reach the final boss, its made all the more difficult by the fact that the characters you're facing it with are theoretically the ones you played with the least. I also appreciate how varied each character class is, it made choosing which team to go in with and preparation a meaningful decision.
Thoroughly satisfied with Pyre, and further proof that
SUPERGIANT. DOESNT. MISS.
