I played a bit of Alan Wake back when it first came out, but fell off of it rather quickly as I wasn’t vibing with combat.
With Alan Wake II approaching I decided it was time to give Alan Wake a proper go. And I’m glad I did.
The vibes and atmosphere is great. While I still am not thrilled by the waves based combat I really do like the mechanics of the flashlight and various other light-based tools.
Where the game really shines mechanically though, is in the DLCs. There are some really cool new ideas introduced that made getting through the waves of enemies a lot more fun and satisfying.
My favorite section of the game is episode 5 as you get to team up with some allies and the final reveal of that episode is really neat.
