While always being second fiddle to Combat Evolved in my mind, this game succeeds at refining the gameplay loop to a fine polish resulting in one of the finest FPS experiences around.
A major point of contention has always been the poor difficulty balance, but I've always considered it more of a benefit than a drawback, it feels somewhat like a FPS Hotline Miami at times, and you've usually got enough wiggle room to make mistakes.
