The gameplay is repetative and boring, the story is pretentious with an outright evil, egoistical message. The alright soundtrack and visuals don't warrant another half star. Ending E felt like a final insult and I deeply regret spending my time on this mess of a game.

Nier didn't know about what the shades were until the very last minute, and by that point it was too late to turn back. Nier Replicant isn't about "oh you're actually a psychotic asshole", it's about no one being able to understand each other, and by the time they can it's too late to go back. It's like a classic tragedy.
It would have been this way, if Kaine didn't actually know about exactly what was going on way early on since she understood the shadowmen speech, while still continuing with her rampage. AND she got away with it, never once feeling any remorse for her actions, as ending E clearly shows. She's just a psychopath, textbook example of one.
