I never played the original but this is alright. First the bad: It chugs during the cutscenes so that's weird. Looked pretty un-remastered but just couldn't keep up. The light/gun mechanic is better on paper than in practice. The good: The story was crazy and had lots of nods to other stuff that was fun. About the time you'd think "This is just a ripoff of..." they would acknowledge it. Not sure if that exempts them but it felt ok and the story was ultimately original enough. The 2 DLC addons included with this version felt weaker since they recycled a lot of scenery and didn't advance the story much but I did like shining the light on words. That seemed like an obvious but good idea. Well anyway, I beat it and will start American Nightmare next so I guess my interest level is still up there.
