Considering my thoughts on the original, going into Demons Souls remake was always going to be an interesting experience. As much as I have issue with the original, a faithful remake with QOL changes sounded really nice and for the most part Demons Souls does deliver, but at the same time so much of the magic is just lost and even early on it can be felt.
Starting positively however the QOL changes are phenomenal across the board. Being able to teleport from any section of the world feels incredibly snappy, and being able to quickly use up obtained Souls and send things to storage feels incredible. Some weird changes like the grass limit being nerfed and a psuedo pause button being added do shift things up but it's still the same experience from playing on RPCS3 with the 60 patch (tldr just play it like that). Also to praise some of the graphical effects I do enjoy little things like levels having animated previews and some of the added rain/particle effects do occasionally shine.
All that being said I can't fucking STAND what happened to the games overall visual style. While I will agree it technically does look better a good chunk of the games original style/substance feels like it was systematically destroyed to cater to people that didn't care for the original. Biggest offender would probably be the audio lots of it just sounds way too clean and modern, ruining a lot of the more quiet moments that permeated the original. Another serious offender would be the music, with much of it just sounding like stock epic music which definitely fits with the GOW/Horizon audience but not fucking Demons Souls. Storm King on both ends is fucking BUTCHERED in the remake and as someone who considers it a top 10 fight across the franchise is HURTS to say. Gone is the oddly suspenseful theme and bright ocean cliffside instead replaced with LOUD FUCKING NOISES.

Also what the fuck is this new UI it looks so fucking bad.
