Good game, I enjoyed it for the most part. I just don't know why people hold it in high regard in terms of it's plot and characters, many people say that this is one of the best JRPG parties and I'm just sitting there wondering how? Most of them are flat and nobody gets enough time to develop. The only ones I'd say were good is Frog and Robo and I still don't feel like Frog got enough time to shine
They mostly just disappear after they're arc concludes (considering if they have one)
Can see how the story is good for it's time and I can appreciate that but the characters aren't good imo and it isn't really an excuse when we got FF6 from the same era
But everything else is pretty good
The game aged really well, the pixel art and general presentation of the game aged really well and I really like how battles happen in real time except of being transported to the "fighting dimension" which is something I wish more JRPGs did
Combat is simplistic and honestly after a certain point I've been able to just spam the same tech or I can just equip berserk for Ayla and leave the DS and come back to find the fight done (actually works)
The soundtrack is hands down one of the best in gaming
Overall it's a good game and I recommend playing it but it just leaves me disappointed and empty. Don't wanna say it's overrated since it was a phenomenon for it's time but it really is

Yes I did the sidequests, in fact they were some of the best parts of the game for me. And yes I do think they added more to the characters
Robo's quest was the best one imo and I think Luca's mini quest where you have to deactivate the device before her mother's legs get swallowed had the biggest impact (at the time my L and R on my DS were broken so I couldn't save so I've gone and repaired her just for the quest lmao)
But I still don't think they were enough, espically when I almost didn't switch the party to anyone else when I I Frog and Robo so they mostly were non existent for me and almost forgot about them
About FF6 I may be wrong about it since it's been some time since I played it first so I'll have to check when I eventually replay it

Oh that explains it. There's all sorts of extra scenes if you switch your party up which goes hand in hand with the replay value and numerous endings. For example, bringing Magus to the Queen Zeal or middle ages trio fights will give him extra speeches as well as a cool animation that suggests things about his character during Frog's sidequest. Ayla has a great pep talk with Marle during her sidequest with the king and I think bringing Crono to it also expands on the king's thoughts regarding him and Marle. There are all sorts of moments like this across the main story too, my favourite being Marle's moments after the party's first encounter with Lavos. Might I also rec playing Radical Dreamers? It adds a lot to a certain character.

Yeah I know about this, that's actually why I kept Robo and Frog for the most part, I wanted to see all of their dialog.

I did also bring him in the middle ages in the sidequest where you get back to a certain building to kill that green monster and, as well, there is extra dialog so yeah there is cool details like these and I thought "yeah that would be cool for replayability" espically when there's 13 freaking endings lol but unfortunately I don't think I'm replaying it anytime soon since I unfortunately didn't really care much for the other characters.
