Played via Sonic Mega Collection for the Nintendo GameCube.

I get the idea. I made it to the final boss but couldn’t finish it. Kinda disappointing considering this is my least favorite Sonic game by far. I had to think long and hard about whether I think the OG Sonic was better compared to Sonic 3, but there’s a feeling of natural progression that OG Sonic has compared to this one. This is needlessly tougher to get through with drawn-out stages that rely on fighting a boss at the end of each one. Enemy robots are hidden a lot, so unlike the OG Sonic where you could learn from your mistakes and pinpoint where to not get hit, Sonic 3 doesn’t work like that. The game is just frustrating and not as satisfying as the previous two I’ve played. Great gameplay and graphics with solid music and a creative story, plus some of the stage elements are pretty fun.

What surprises me is how people think this is the best classic Sonic game. To me, it feels like Sega’s long con.
