For some reason I have yet to determine, I decided to go ahead and finish this game. It took up nearly my whole day. I had it marked as abandoned and had no interest in finishing it, but for some reason I went ahead and did it. I can't really say that It was worth it, If im being honest. Now it would be silly to call Arkham Origins a bad game because well, its basically just discount Arkham City and everyone likes Arkham City. But I guess thats sort of my problem with it. It's more Arkham City but it doesnt really do anything all that new. Theres some good "origins" for further plots in the series but Im not convinced that this was needed. It fills in details nobody was really asking for and everyone could of more or less already guessed. It's kinda like the El Camino of gaming prequels. Thats a really stretched analogy but basically I mean to say while its a "good" game by default of being just like the rest, It ultimately feels pretty pointless In the end. The story isn't anything special, and a lot of the spotlight is put on Joker who quite frankly just is not very good in this. None of his jokes land and he just feels kinda like a shell of his former (future) self. The story also is just a bit too long, theres an entire section dedicated to Firefly near the end that really just wasnt needed at all, it slowed the already troublesome pacing near to a halt, and thats especially annoying when the game felt like it was gonna end two missions beforehand.
I played on normal difficulty and the combat is fine. Im not good at it but theres a reason Spiderman and Shadow of Mordor copied it, its a good system with lots of potential for depth and experimentation, but much like the rest of the game nothing interesting is done with it and its basically the same. Playing on PSNow everything ran pretty well. I did have to restart the final boss due to glitches but thats all thats memorable.
Couldn't decide where to put this in but I want to add that there are sections where Batman comes across a locked wooden door that he cant pass so he has to find a way around. Really? Did I miss the second rule of his code of honor? Right besides "No Killing" is the equally important "Don't break down doors" rule? This isnt a big deal but I just found it silly and had to rant about it.
Overall, this game is perfectly fine. Maybe a 3/5 is too high but I think its just fine enough that if you like Arkham and want more of it you'll get some good enjoyment out of it, and even though I probably should of done something better with my time it wasnt a waste. Could I say I'd ever wanna play this again though? Well, life is short. And like batman sometimes says, "No"
