For Activision's third release of a product called Modern Warfare II, it feels hollow at best and pathetic at worst. A horrid, shambling mess of poorly constructed UI, boring multiplayer maps, and a milquetoast campaign that serves its obvious US imperial propaganda purpose but doesn't posses any of the hilarity or major spectacle that made other titles memorable.

At launch, the content is bare, the stability is lacking, and the user experience is a total drag. Despite all of that, the actual gameplay and mechanics of MWII retain the usual CoD polish, presenting a fluid and engaging gameplay loop that can be hard to put down at times.

Though the mechanics are solid, it's everything else that supports the gameplay that suffers. Modern Warfare II's campaign has a few highlights in its mission list, yet most of the levels (especially in the first half) are repetitive and a tad boring. Not even the obviously tone-deaf narrative can save the entertainment factor, as the plot reveals are obvious and the conclusions are unsatisfactory at best.

Both multiplayer and co-op suffer from a major lack of content. With only 3 co-op missions and a small string of mostly terrible multiplayer maps, I can't say much of anything included in the launch package intrigues for long. What's frustrating is that to receive most of the content for this game, we're going to have to wait through yet another obnoxious seasonal structure to receive maps we've already played countless times before and we'll eat it up because it's better than the shit we were shoveled out on launch. Yes, I'm going to be playing Shipment over and over again when season 1 launches, because it's better than anything else included in this pathetic launch package and the fact it took every single Activision subsidiary and the death of several franchises making a revival tour is disheartening.

Also Bobby Kotick is a deranged abuser and should never know peace for the rest of his waking days alongside the rest of the Activision executive staff.
