Horror is back in RE baby! Resident Evil 7 has the best atmosphere of any of its family, only competing with the remake of the first game, although this one goes more for a Texas Chainsaw vibe than a haunted mansion one, so they are both pretty different. I do love how every villain represents a different subgenre of horror (Jack is slashers, Marguerite is body horror, Lucas is torture porn and Evelyn is supernatural). As for the game itself, it has probably the best start of any RE title, keeping it strong in the main and old house, and then... the game falls apart. Yeah I must say, I'm not an RE7 dick rider. After the fight with Marguerite the game plummets to the ground, with the really boring and not scary at all part of Lucas, the tedious boat and the lackluster mines, the second half of this game is just a chore to get through. I like the plot twist at the end and the villains have a lot of depth, but this may as well be one of my least replayed RE games out there because of all the reasons listed above. At least it saved the franchise, for which I'm forever grateful.
