This was my introduction to Spyro and I was immediately in love. I couldn't believe how much fun I had in every single level. Must have played it over and over 100%-ing it each time. I loved the chunky 3d models on the characters and enemies, and I loved charging around breaking stuff or flaming big enemies.
The orb challenges in each level were super varied and endlessly engaging (even if a couple made me pull my hair out, like second Turtle Soup). Also loved the variety of levels: Tibetan monks playing Hockey was probably my favorite as a hockey kid, but also sunny beaches, volcanoes, underwater, riffs on fables, future robot cities, etc.
The story is simple but I always find it very funny. Ripto's such a fun villain with his pint-sized rage, Hunter is a delightful ally, and all the random allies you meet in levels have a lot of personality. This is a tremendous game, every time I revisit it I always enjoy it just as much as the first time. The PS4 remakes were very nice and all too but honestly I still love the way these games look on PS1.
