A very solid bite-sized Metroid experience with some interesting surprises. It shares a lot of similarities with Super Metroid, but I don't find that to be a bad thing. Honestly, you could make fifty versions of Super Metroid with a different coat of paint and I would happily lap that up.

I did take notice of the more "linear" (guided might be a better word to use) nature of the game which is a little odd for a game of this genre, but I can't say that I felt that it affected my experience that much. I enjoyed getting from point A to point B well enough that being given more direction than usual never bothered me. I also think there is some value in a more streamlined, railroaded approach even if it's rather contrary to the conventions of the series. Especially for newcomers to Metroidvanias, I imagine this game would make for a friction-less entry point.

With all that being said, the Metroid series delivers another hit and I continue to fall in love. Now on to Fusion!
