From small British studio, Milky Tea, Coffin Dodgers is a very simple kart racer that provides a few hours of fun for those looking for something reminiscent of the 2000s explosion in the genre. Simple mechanics, a small set of weapons and a variety of old codgers to choose from, all of whom are facing off against the Grim Reaper. The quirkiness sort of reminds me of Monster Racers on the PS1 and Cel Damage on PS2. There are 13 tracks in the game, some provide some tight maneuvering but most seem a little too open.

A little somewhat innovative is that the tracks are built around a single map; this opens up a sort of Vehicular combat dimension which can be good fun if there's two of you playing split-screen. Along with the conventional time trial mode there's a "Crazy Taxi" styled one too where you have to collect items to keep the timer running.

Coffin Dodgers has plenty of flaws, however. It's very short for one, the customisable karts are a nice touch but add little, and the sound design grates after about 15 minutes. Then there's the "story" mode, a thin attempt I think at humour, gives you a bare bones opening cutscene and two closing ones, with writing that feels very stilted and bizarre.

Fun game I suppose, for a small fee.
