My Steam Nextfest 2024

It seems the theme of my Next Fest experience is "great art and concept, poor game design".

Incredible, the demo consists of the first biome/region of the game and this is perfect in every way. Super satisfying to play and there's enough demo here to really sink your teeth into.
Wow this game looks GOOD, or at least the environments do. This is one of the rare games that doesn't look worse than games that came out 7 years ago while on the lowest settings.

There's a lot that's poorly executed here (basically every time a character talks to another one you're in for a stilted and boring experience.) But the tone and premise are so intriguing that I couldn't look away.
The enemies and building economy are fundamentally undercooked but the art and especially UI are real charming, and the basic idea is very entertaining. A very promising foundation that hopefully can be refined into a finished game.

Vibes aren't good
The worst thought out flying enemies I've ever seen in a tower defense. Otherwise super charming.
You know that one level, it's usually the first or the second one, the one where you're not quite in the tutorial anymore but the game is still holding your hand and hasn't really opened up the world/gameplay to you just yet and so you're not quite having fun yet but excited for things to really open up? This demo is just that level, nothing else.

Beyond that, unfortunately, the English writing/localization is quite bad.
This UX is astoundingly obtuse.
