The first true shmup I ever beat! in one credit too! I took a few attempts today (6 total, 3 to test out the characters but once I got to the final boss on my 3rd run, I decided that I could clear the game in one continue)
It was a damn blast with super weird and wacky environments, I tried all 3 characters, but I ended up winning as the PC Engine (being a giant PC engine with homing missiles is hilarious). This game hit a really nice curve of learning powerups and being quite tame for most of it, with the last 3 stages really ramping up the pace.
I barely won with only 2 lives left out of my initial 15 or so getting to the final boss, I had a few chokes along the way but I feel so satisfied with how good I got at the earlier stages. I'm gonna try to beat it with the other two characters now then try hard mode!
I think I might be a big fan of this genre now, big ups to nachy and gunstar heroes for giving me the motivation to play my first shump. Looking forward to more
