First and foremost, I ONLY recommend this game if you are a DC / Batman fan and interested in experiencing a new story in the universe and can tolerate repetitive gameplay.
Initially I hated this game and didn't plan on continuing after getting past the first 2 missions. I went back and gave it another shot, and the story ended up hooking me. While the story is not fantastic, I did really enjoy seeing the new spins on Harley, Clayface, and Freeze, as well as a main plot digging a bit into the Court of Owls. I didn't enjoy the combat at all, though it at least grew on me as I progressed. Even with unlocking new abilities, it's always the same no-thought fighting, just beating on the enemy till their health bar disappears. To make up for the boring combat, most of the time I was over-leveled and combat was fairly easy. Once I did start unlocking elemental effects, it did add a bit more flair that made some fights more satisfying. The whole gear system was unnecessary and only was there to promote a live-service type grind. My favorite parts were the level and world design, I feel they did a pretty good job building visually engaging and satisfying environments. I really enjoyed seeing all the Gotham universe references and being able to explore various notable locations. Being able to experience this world and the strong environmental storytelling the levels offered was by far the biggest highlight of the game.
