*Played with the 25th Anniversary Edition (romhack) with retroachievements that basically remasters some aspects of it to make it more enjoyable but it's mostly just visuals and tweaked enemy encounters + xp

This is my first earthbound game ever and I really enjoyed it! While outdated, it holds WAY better than I expect. Better than most NES games imo ((imo..))

The gameplay is really simple just a turn based rpg and the world is quite empty and filled with random encounters.
The puzzles and ways to progress, while funny, can be hard to figure out so using a guide is recommended. Fair warning: It is a short game when you know what to do.

The music in this game is really fucking great. The main exploration theme is upbeat and with drums that yell adventure that.. stop! when the game is paused. Basically it uses layered music and I found that incredibly sweet.

The main story and areas are quite interesting and funny with npcs that did give me a laugh or two in 2023!
in conclusion: It is a good and enjoyable game that suffers from outdated technology but it's creative enough to offer a remarkable experience even with all of those barriers.
I would only recommend playing this if you're doing it with a guide and some knowledge of how old games are. If you cannot bear the clunkyness, you don't miss out on much because that clunkyness will be very present in the movement and you will walk a lot.

It is a charming game done with the heart and I adore it quite a lot.
Excited to see what the next game has in store for me :-)
