Undetected is clearly very inspired by Metal Gear Solid. The style, story theme, story telling and gameplay. The difference is the game’s length (can be completed in 3 hours if you know what you’re doing), its focus on stealth and it has limitations for an indie game. I’m very impressed for the most part. I like the way it looks, the gadgets and the gameplay. What I liked less was the voice acting, the controls sometimes and one boss section. Some of the voice acting can sound decent but most are bad. The aiming can be hard with a mouse if you’re not used to the controls. You fight a robot you’re supposed to distract with a gadget so it destroys a target. That gadget doesn’t seem to always get the robot’s attention and I’m not sure if that makes it buggy or something I haven’t figured out.

With stealth I mean the game being more punishing (on the second difficulty mode) if you’re spotted, especially early on. If you’re spotted you’re pretty much dead if you’re not quick enough. Your gadgets are mainly to distract enemies, make them unconscious for a while, buy a short time to escape, reduce the sound of your footsteps etc. You can’t kill the normal enemies.

You’re not playing Undetected for the story but mainly the gameplay. It’s a fun distraction but don’t go expecting a MGS game in terms of polish, scope or budget. This game is mainly done by one developer and that makes it pretty impressive too.
