The game that started it all. Even if it is decades old at this point, EoSD will always be a legendary game within the Touhou community. The game was actually surprisingly addicting for me to play.

If you are not experienced with bullet hell shooter games, then believe me when I say the difficulty regarding this game is not exaggerated at all. I don't know how many playthroughs it took me to beat the game on 1cc but it was definitely way more than I could count. The bullet patterns are extremely packed and it takes a lot of practice to build up the muscle memory to dodge them properly. You also need a solid strategy with your bomb usage to avoid losing too many lives. Yes, the game is hard, but at least on normal difficulty it's still doable and not completely unfair.

The biggest problem I have with this game is regarding its controls. It is just way too responsive and I often find it hard to adjust for smaller movements even when holding shift. There is also a notable lack of the hit point area that is usually marked out on the character in the latter games of the series. Let's just say the game certainly does show its age a bit.

As you might have noticed, my avatar is Flandre, who just happens to be the EX boss of this game. I did try the EX mode and got decimated by her so yea... If you are fixated on beating EX mode, it will definitely take a LOT of practices.

This game is the start of the modern Touhou scene as we know today. It is certainly a very good game and I can see why it would garner so much attention from the early internet. If you are a Touhou fan, don't be intimidated by the difficulty of the series and try this game out!
