i have attempted playing this game as well as half life 1 multiple times and i just do not click with them. after finally loving RE1 recently, i was hoping to click with another classic i never got before but im still not getting it. and don't get me wrong, it is simply because i am bad at this game and can't get my brain to comprehend this game and it's mechanics which really sucks to admit. i love valve, the portals are two of my favourite games of all time and i love half life 2 despite me not having the same connection to it as the portal games, but i have tried multiple times to get into this game with multiple different mindsets, including the one that works for most which is "you're playing as a scientist, not doomguy," and after 9 hours logged on steam for black mesa and 2 and a half in half life 1, it has not worked for me at all.

it didn't click again, but i hope it will one day
