(Disclaimer: This review is coming from someone who has barely played the original game)
Dead Space is a superb action horror game that had me gripped through the USG Ishimura from start to finish due to its incredible atmosphere that was very effective in keeping an eye on my surroundings at every corner and kept surprising me with the varied disgusting Necromorphs.
Add this with simple but effective exploration to find cash or upgrades to expand on your arsenal that is both fun and satisfying to use due to the sound design or impressive gore system. You have a recipe for a game that is very engaging & immersive to experience and doesn’t have any fluff that made me roll my eyes.
If there is one complaint that I have to give is how very easy the game becomes due to certain weapons like the Ripper or Contact Beam being overpowered and once you realize how ammo drop rate works. The game becomes a breeze eventually but isn’t a huge deal to me as the atmosphere & intensity director don’t make it for a completely mindless experience as unbalanced as the game comes across.
Overall, this game made me turn into a Dead Space fan & I can’t wait to experience the second game one way or the other someday. This is definitely a strong recommendation especially if you haven’t touched the original game.
