Super Smash Bros. is such a unique and interesting concept, that for a long time, no other game captured that same spark. But to my surprise, one evening I was at my local Blockbuster and found this game, a fighting game based on one of my favourite properties, Digimon. Upon further inspection, this was also a Smash-like fighting game. I couldn't believe my eyes, and so after renting it and playing through it, I was immediately hooked.

After having played this game again many years later, it is easier to see the fault of this game. The cast feels very limited and unbalanced, the amount of content is small, and the controls aren't as responsive as Smash Bros. Melee. What it has instead is charm and a unique evolution mechanic. each character is voice acted by their original English VA, and it is a delight to hear them. They also play similarly to how they would fight in the show, which made for some really fun moments. Each Digimon can also digivolve after powering up their meter enough, going to their champion then their ultimate or mega forms. This was such a fun aspect of the game, as it made each fighter stand out more.

I recommend this game to any Smash fans. This is not perfect, but it is fun for what it is and I have many fond memories of it.
