I understand why this game got the reputation it got, but I don't understand why it still is getting the same amount of hate that it got when it released.

Trying to complete Mario Sunshine nowadays is nowhere near as impossible as it used to be thanks to all the information and strats available on the internet, just one click away. And yeah, the game is still janky and pretty unpolished in a lot of areas, but to me it compensates for that with Mario's movement.

This has to be the second best Mario to control in any of the 3D games, only losing to Mario's moveset and overall feel in Odyssey. Jumping, diving, sliding, hovering, all of it feels miles better, faster and smoother than in 64, let alone most of the other 3D Mario games that came after, which is insane to think.

I also appreciate them trying to tell a more "complex" story with these characters, even if everything about the execution is pretty laughable. I just wish they tried this again in the current era of Mario.

I didn't grow up with this game, I played it fairly recently and I was expecting to hate it, but ended up actually loving it, so this isn't nostalgia speaking for me.

Blue coins are completely stupid, some missions are absolute dogshit and the FLUDDless levels are not actually bad, I quite like them actually, I like the challenge. Overall, there are a lot of things I can say and I want to say about this game and why I think it gets way too much hate, but I wanna keep this review short.

4/5 It is better than 64 and I would rather play this again than any of the Galaxy games...But that's a discussion for another day...
