while a fun game at it's core there is one major thing holding this game back from being truly great, it's story sucks asshole, by far one of the worst story I've experienced in a game, mainly due to the fact that nearly everyone here is unlikable (only acceptation being Kat), shallow plot, Vergil turning into a bad guy at the end for no reason other than probably "Oh he was Dante's rival in the original gotta make him the bad guy" even though he was never even bad, questionable? yeah but I never thought of Vergil as fully evil, other honorable mentions is Dante's Interaction with the succubus, where it shows off genuinely atrocious dialogue, for example (this is a transcript off the Devil May Cry Wiki)

Succubus: WHO THE FUCK ARE YOUUUUUUU!?
(Succubus vomits)

Succubus: Dante? Son of Sparda? And Eva the whoooorrrreeee?

(Succubus vomits again)

Dante: Yep. But you can call me Dante the demon killer. Has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

Dante: You don't look a day over twelve thousand.

Succubus: Fuck You!

Succubus: FUCK YOUUUUUU...

I know that was a bit long but I'm just trying to illustrate my point, other honorable mentions go to Mundus fucking Lilith, and Vergil aborting Lilith's baby by shooting her in the stomach with a sniper rifle and then waiting a few seconds to shoot her in the head to let her see what he's done, top to bottom the story is fucking horrible but that aside if we push all of that to the side there is a genuinely fun game here, gameplay wise anyway, the combat is super fun and kinetic and you switch from weapon to weapon even mid combo and us the combos those weapons have when when you we're doing your first one with a different weapon, fun combat aside I actually do like some of the places you go to, you'll sometimes find yourself in a world called Limbo, a parallel dimension to the human world, it gets super trippy fun and the colors are quite nice, overall going through the Limbo areas we're actually quite fun, and the soundtrack was great! by far my favorite soundtrack of any Devil May Cry game thus far, tracks like "WTF Is Wrong With You", "Never Surrender", "Barbas Theme" and "Mundus Theme" are tracks that get my rocks off and I sometimes listen to even when I'm not playing the game, basically everything that isn't the atrocious godawful story is actually quite good, if you go into this wanting to ignore the story you might actually enjoy yourself if your looking for a fun action game,
