Relic Hunters Zero: Remix is a fun, short little roguelike, that I've really been enjoying lately. Getting the achievements has been especially fun and addicting! The gunplay is smooth and quick to pick up, and most importantly, rewarding to master. Best of all, this game is free!

You know, I installed this on my PC on a whim because I was sorting my Steam game library by "unplayed" and "roguelite", and this game appeared. Didn't remember a thing about it. Must have had the original many years ago I'm not even sure. But wow! I can't believe this is being given out for free now. It plays so well, the characters all feel unique with their different stats and playstyles, and it's all just loads of fun.

All that said, I don't have a lot of playtime in it! This is a little out of character for a roguelite (or roguelike), which is usually gushing with enough variety that you feel comfortable squeezing 20–50 hours out of them. With my humble 10 hours, I can confidently say this is the shortest amount of time I've spent with a game of this kind, yet I feel as though I've experienced most of what the game has to offer, leading me to write this review. Once you've mastered the combat, or found a character that works for you, it's not hard to complete a whole run in 15 minutes or less (on adventure mode anyway). Though admittedly, it is kinda fun knowing you can become overpowered with relics in such a short burst of time!

In my opinion, the best mode of the bunch is Adventure, for its ease of access to becoming unkillable, then Storm, which plays a lot like Risk of Rain with its time-based difficulty mechanic. Endless is fun, but I think it gets dumb hard a little too quickly with the difficulty modifiers, so much so that it gets exponentially less fun. But to be fair I haven't been able to get a "perfect" run there, so I haven't had a lot of adrenaline to keep me interested in that mode, which could very well change.

All in all, it's a pretty beefy package for a free game! If you like roguelikes/roguelites I recommend you pick it up in your downtime amidst other games, as you don't need that big of a time commitment to experience everything it has to offer.
