calling super castlevania 4 a remake is a disservice to this game. its got that number on the end for a reason, this game is a full fledged sequel. it may be about simon beating dracula again, but the levels barely resemble the nes counterpart. if this is a remake, then so is every zelda game
super castlevania 4 lets you know this is the first castlevania for the 16 bit era by doing every trick it can muster with the super nintendo, all while controlling like a dream. sc4 makes the first 3 games look like absolute dinosaurs, as this is just pure platforming, whipping action, with sweet ass whip physics. it starts out easy, maybe too easy for your typical pre-sotn castlevania, since those games try to kick your ass right out the gate, but by the end, its the ass tearing difficulty with medusa heads causing cheap deaths and bosses that have the weirdest damn hitbox and attacks that you just cant realistically avoid no matter how many times you try
it's certainly the most balanced castlevania by 1991.
overall, this game's a damn good time, and a must play snes title
is it one of the best castlevania games? well at the time of writing this, i haven't played many so i can't say for sure... but im willing to say yes
