Solid Metroidvania. It's incredible that this is the product of essentially one man; Tom Happ has designed a game that can stand its ground in a genre that is very hard to get right. Moreover, the powerups and upgrades are unique and fun, especially the glitching, and make this more than simply a Metroid clone.

There are a few issues: overall the bosses are a little RNG, especially on hard mode, and some sprites and textures look much better than others. Also I think a lot of the areas are quite straightforward and getting around is pretty easy until the latter half of the game, taking away from some of the exploration Super Metroid is best known for.

However, there is so much room for speedrunning and optimising your runs and this is one of the first games I've experimented with in this way (as I enjoyed it enough to go for the platinum). Playing this in speedrun mode feels like Metroid in all the best ways.
