Woke up this morning and decided to play Darkstalkers really fuckin' hard. Cheap piece of crap, can't even quarter-circle!

I played through about 7 character's stories, though I couldn't tell you what actually happens in any of them since I'm playing off a burned Japanese copy. The ending cutscenes are all very cute, though. I'd let Q-bee move in anytime she wants, and she bring her whole carnivorous family with her. Some of the best character designs in the genre, if you ask me. I'm a BB Hood main only because I can't get enough of her beatboxing.

Like with most fighting games, I'm neither smart nor seasoned enough to really dig into the technical aspects. This plays good, the animations are great, and there's some really solid hit feedback, so I had a fantastic time with it. Just a shame someone decided to design the Sega Saturn D-pad such that it connects to a thin piece of brittle plastic fed through the mold of the face plate. I think BB Hood should beatbox over their graves (BB Hood is not real so this statement is not legally actionable, according to my lawyer, Larry Davis.)

found this one really relatable as someone who also plays bb hood and also busted the shit out of the dpad on that same controller

@curse Retro-bit controllers are such ass. I'm sure you're already familiar with how their Saturn pads bleed charge when not plugged in, so you gotta hook them to an outlet anytime you're not playing. My Genesis 6-button only registered full inputs on like, A.

yeah it was problem after problem for me with their saturn pad from day 1. between that and hori not making the fighting commander 4 anymore I've had a terrible time trying to find a decent six button controller

@curse Honestly, the best bet with any retro controller is to go OEM and do maintenance on them. Clean the contacts, swap pads, buy spare parts in bulk... But I like the convenience of wireless controllers and the lack of clutter. 8bitdo makes Saturn pads, and while those controllers have their own issues, it's probably the best available aftermarket options. Problem is, I think you gotta buy the dongle separately, which is damn near the cost of the pad itself.

Don't even get me started on PS2 controllers, which is its own nightmare I also recently had to deal with.

might check out the 8bitdo pad as a last ditch effort before ordering a dumptruck worth of OEM stuff to my apartment then. I really don't want a bunch of clutter either, but it seems like it might be the best option if I want to be able to reliably use a saturn pad longterm
