Deathmatch Classic is a spiritual successor to the deathmatch game mode of Quake, it features really similar gameplay, weapons, and maps ending up just like if it was a GoldSrc version of Quake.
And as expected from a Valve Deathmatch game, it's a ton of fun. it's a deathmatch game, there's nothing else to say, just get on and get some frags!... Actually, you can't... because this game is dead as hell! Literally, all servers are empty, I had to sit for a while in an empty one till a rando joined and it was a 1v1 but still a ton of fun.
I'd like to say "Do give it a try!" but you can't! So, maybe check out the Source version of Deathmatch it might have more players, may you rest in peace with Ricochet.
