The level design is arguably better than Doom II, striking a better balance between puzzling and shooting demons. The visual shift from the more cartoony sprites of the first two games to a darker, macabre aesthetic is welcome too. You also cannot go wrong with the Unmaker, a new weapon for these games.

Unfortunately, there's no multiplayer, which is frankly damning. While the modern port from Nightdive Studios runs well and preserves feeling of the original game, would it have killed them to at least add co-op? I can't see myself playing this alone again.
