a great DLC for dark souls with some very memorable boss fights. i love that it's so terse, doesn't feel bloated or padded out at all. kalameet steals the show as far as boss fights go, though, and stands out as probably one of the best fights in the entire series, top 3 at worst.

among my only complaints with this expansion are that it's prohibitively difficult to figure out how to even start it without using the internet, and the level design feels a bit lacking compared to the main game. it's not bad by any means, but it feels slightly less storied and fairly straight forward. royal wood is probably the only area that really stands out in my mind, and that's more for the interesting "before and after" of exploring darkroot garden before it became dark and/or root.

either way, definitely recommend this to anyone with even a passing interest in it. dark souls remastered comes with it for free, so you really have very little excuse not to play it. my only regret is that i did this right before finishing up my first playthrough and somewhat trivialized a lot of the bosses as a result. ah well. there's always next playthrough.
