s'okay. the biggest problem is the emphasis on combat. it didn't work in metroid prime 3, what made them think it would work here? the design philosophy seems to be "make every enemy annoying to deal with and make every boss take an egregious length of time", and it really disrupts the exploration. isn't exploration supposed to be like the key gameplay element of a metroid game? none of the areas stand out from each other, and they're all named "area #" so there's even less of a chance you'll commit a zone to memory.

oddly enough, i prefer the original GB game to this, because that was relatively lean and novel in its approach. this game feels bloated, stretched out twice its length. it doesn't help that the amiibo content locking an entire difficulty + the legal action that was taken against AM2R leaves a very bitter taste in my mouth. but, at the end of the day, as a game it's mostly fine. it's not bad, but it's not particularly good either.
