Freedom Planet can be can be best described as a "Sonic-like." It takes heavy cues from the SEGA Genesis Sonic games - everything from its gameplay, to its level design, to even its character design highly invokes those games, but with some twists to make it feel unique.
The gameplay is generally good and I love the character designs, but the level design really didn't click with me from what I played. It's hard to explain, but to me it feels kind of... bloated. Some levels took way longer to beat than I'd like them to in a game like this, with one level taking more than 10 minutes on my run of it. I'll get back to this one eventually but I really didn't like it as much as I hoped I would, at least from the first bit of the game.
