This game is a nightmare at it's core, but it does have some things that make that nightmare manageable and even fun at times. First, the main campaign, engagement and difficulty.

this game is easy.
It gives you two starters and a mega lucario, the gym leaders have very few pokemon with even fewer moves, the exp share makes you way overleveled, I would be legitimately shocked if someone lost a single battle throughout the entire game and postgame. Playing this game is not engaging. Your brain will be off the whole time. The story is pathetic, and team flare is more reminiscent of team rocket from the anime than any of the games. The story also features a twist villain who is about as surprising as a piece of toast. The only good moment isthe time when the "ultimate weapon" is fired, which is sufficiently dramatic but lacks buildup. Oh, and when you enter the pokemon league. The music is actually incredible there, and it feels very epic. So, what else is there here? The designs are good, both for the mons and the people. The music is nice, and finally, the game's saving grace: the routes. The routes are actually quite good, and this is not because they're designed better than another pokemon game but because of the sheer variety of pokemon. You have so many options in this game, and I really wish other pokemon games went further with the selection of pokemon on a given route. Listen, the game is kind of a mess. You will not ever be engaged , but that doesn't mean you can't wean some entertainment from this bad boy. Just don't take it seriously, relax, and have some fun. The issue here is that as you get older, your free time evaporates, so I can't really recommend this to someone over 13 who isn't retired. But, if you have time to waste, you could give it a go.
