The Innsmouth Case
It’s hard to really say when this game was beaten, as there are nearly 20 different endings, but I’ve gotten the lay of the land enough to see what the game is going for. Admittedly, the pitch for this game hooked me into buying it on sale, and I regret to inform you that even the sales price was too much to pay.

As a text adventure, my one ask for this game would be that it has no spelling errors, and it fails there, sometimes to the effect of confusing the player. As for the story, this game is trying to be a more comedic take on the dark Lovecraftian mythos, but it relies heavily on players already knowing that mythos for any kind of lasting effect. Finally, the routes to different endings are not long, so the first ending I reached felt abrupt and unearned.

The only positive thing I would say about this game is that it creates a very real sense of geography, for a text adventure. The map was awesome, and the images of locations were moody, but this wasn’t enough to raise this game’s status for me.
