It took me a while to even reach the first settlement, and i had to find a guide to figure out how to do even basic tasks. Retrospectively this made figuring things out just fine but it took some adjustment from my modern gamer sensibilities.

Fantastic story and characters, but the gameplay has definitely aged. The unfortunate fate of being the first in a series strikes this game pretty harshly. I respect it for laying the groundwork but there's nothing here that the later fallout games don't do better. This is a really great game to watch all the cool story beats, but not to play yourself. Becomes a lot more palatable if you are willing to mod the game.
