Despite the character controller that's somehow worse than FO4 and the lack of free singleplayer modes (and single-player in general, as you always connect to a server, regardless of private worlds), I think this is one helluva game. And an even better fallout game. The world is absolutely beautiful and expertly woven into the story of the land.
HOWEVER, it IS an online game and you do have to play it like one. You cannot rush through it. It is meant to be played for a long time, grinding through levels and slowing down the pace of gameplay. I think a lot of Fallout fans are turned off by this shift.
The abysmal launch is certainly a large part of this game's legacy, but games nowadays are a sort of living thing, changing over time. At the present moment, Fallout 76 is a good-ass game.
