It has a certain special "something"; an intangible "je ne sais quoi" that elevates this game above an abjectly miserable experience. It's the rare kind of powerfully stupid, archaic-at-release, low budget game that is actually made better by the janky combat, the compressed-beyond-Hell audio files, and the off-the-wall, nigh-incomprehensible narrative. I'm not even sure if this qualifies as being "AA", as neither the developer nor publisher even have Wikipedia pages, defunct or not. I know the game has been pulled from sale basically everywhere, except maybe the odd physical copy floating around in the ether... Jesus Christ, is "Darkest of Days" my Roman Empire-type obsession? Am I gonna have to be the stupid asshole that ensures that the memory of this crap is preserved, lest we lose all evidence of a supposed studio called "8monkey Labs"?

Charming in spite of itself at literally every turn. God, what a hilarious game.
