The writing has its ups and downs (Morgana’s runaway and its dissonance re: Kawakami and Kamoshida) but you can’t convince me that it’s not still very damn good. Each dungeon gets better and the stakes get higher, and Royal is easily the best post-launch/rerelease Atlus has ever done. There’s simply so many improvements and the writing goes from excellent to perfection. I still think about third semester and Akechi’s social link all the time because they’re just that fucking fantastic. Peak fiction right here.
