It's hard to believe that I played this game, it feels much more like a fever dream induced from huffing car fumes built inside my imagination to be honest.

I was very intrigued by this game when it was announced because I truly did think a Nioh-esque Final Fantasy was an awesome formula change. It being set in the Final Fantasy 1 universe and potentially being a reboot or retelling of that story was making me pog my eyes out. And then.. they revealed what the main characters looked like and I was like, "Oh-". Still got it at release, but it became very quickly that this was not the game that I thought it would be LOL.

Honestly? It's mostly fine. It's a very forgiving souls-esque game where dying just resets you a few feet back instead of 8 miles away. That feature came in clutch in some instances, but was annoying in others since the enemies respawn you'll be constantly fighting or running past those enemies to get back to where you need. They aren't like Dark Souls sword bearing enemies though, a lot of them are damage sponge magic projectile dickheads who I HATE. There's a very hard early game boss that took me a long time to defeat and I'm unsure why they put it there, because it was definitely the hardest boss of the game for me and the others behind it were extremely easy, so the difficulty scaling was all over the place.

The UI bore a hole into my brain, there are so many menus and endless, ENDLESS items in the inventory menu that mostly mean nothing. It becomes overwhelming as all hell. I enjoyed the variety of classes we could use but some are definitely more useful that others, and having to level up classes through multiple skill trees to get to the good stuff can get grating. The late game classes steal the show for sure and once I unlocked The Sage class, it was basically locked in from there.

The game is incredibly cringe but I don't fear cringe. Jack definitely saves this game from being monotonous, I felt I could relate to him much more as the game progressed. The other characters never shut the fuck up mid-battle and I had to mute them though.

It's wildly absurd and I didn't hate it. It's not the game I wanted but it was still a funny time I could appreciate.
