Another step in the right direction for the Pokémon games to get back to their former glory in console form, but is hampered down a ton by the fact that the game struggles to keep itself from tearing apart at it's own seams.

The only performance issues I ran into were Tera battles anywhere on or near water, the FPS would immediately tank and the Switch would start short circuiting. The textures look terrible and the animations aren't even attempting to try. I won't ignore the fact that other players had way more issues though, and some major bugs so yes, they are a detriment to this game.

I like the ideas they are coming up with, but they either need to scale up their staff and production time, or scale back the ginormous ideas they keep coming up with. It bothers me to no end that this game would be shipped out like this with plans to just go on to make DLC additions instead of fixing the problems. I really want them to finally figure it the fuck out already because the mechanics and plot of this game really took me by surprise for the most part.

Finally there's a spotlight shown on every type in some way. While you still have to go through the formulaic 8 gym badge and Victory Road system, there's more to do in this game that breaks up the typical monotony we've been doing for the last 30 years. My only complaint about how they did it here is that they give you an open-world set up but the objectives are still linear based. It lead to me doing a lot of mid-tier challenges first and then completely decimating the early tier challenges in 5 seconds. There should have been difficulty scaling instead.

This game touched upon themes that I wasn't expecting and it was a breath of fresh air coming off of the heels of Sword/Shield and Legends Arceus who were written by infants, for infants. Some plotlines landed much better than others, but I still appreciated the sentiments. The ending was heartfelt until Ed Sheeran Kool-Aid Man'd his way into the game and ruined it.

I like most of the new designs and used only gen. 9 Pokémon, but the Violet Paradox Pokémon are so stupid in comparison to Scarlet's. They just look dumb as all Hell, minus Miraidon.

It was a far much more enjoyable experience to me than the previous two titles, but I have no interest in giving them more money for the DLC expansions. There is no Lickitung in this game so I incinerated my copy of it.
