As a story, it absolutely succeeds in every aspect of it's execution. The writing is amazing and every character is a pool of charisma; The art direction is superb, and taking a look at the concept art and storyboards of the game (included in a gallery in this remastered version's menus) just show how creative and talented the production team was; the soundtrack is great and OH THE VOICE ACTING! Out of this planet!

But, well, as a game, it sadly disappointed me beyond belief. I couldn't believe it when I saw that all the claims about the absurdly obtuse puzzles were all real. I can't even classify this as a "master-level" adventure game, since almost every puzzle rely on cartoon logic to be figured out (would you really think I would consider ripping my ship apart by tangling up it's own anchors and use it's back part in order to flee from hired assassins?? simply wtf).

However, I still found Grim Fandango to be a fun experience. Such a great story didn't need to be followed by absurd puzzles, but I think it's very much worth it to face them for the game's plot an characters alone.
