Now we’re talking. This is the first of the Game Boy titles to actually compare to the NES Mega Man games, and even from the first stage I picked up, I was already more than pleasantly surprised after coming from the first two.

The difficulty, especially in regards to level design and enemy placement, still needed some work. It can be unfair, with lots of pixel-perfect jumps and unhappy surprises, but it is, without a doubt, everything you would expect from a proper Mega Man game, just in a smaller scale. I love how the stages can make you take a more careful approach whilst also requiring quick reflexes to face the hazards ahead. Also, both graphically and musically-wise, it’s the most accomplished of the Game Boy titles up to this point.

Still far from perfection, but I can safely recommend this one to any Mega Man fan out there.
