A really solid open-world game that is basically Far Cry operating on a higher level in an interesting post-apocalyptic setting. The highlights for me were the main character, Aloy, and her voice acting by Ashly Burch, as well as Sylens, the only interesting NPC to me in the whole game, played by Lance Reddick, and the world of the game, both the lore and the physical environment are great, with beautiful diverse landscapes and varied creature designs. The story overall is fine, with Aloy's personal journey and interactions with Sylens being the highlights, but so many of the characters are just bland and generic to me, not helped by the strange facial animations. The gameplay is up and down, as the variety of enemies and methods of attack is compelling but the actual mechanics are really clunky and can be quite annoying and/or repetitive at times. The worldbuilding, open world, and protagonist's journey elevate a game that at its core is fundamentally a simple Far Cry-like open world to being quite an enjoyable time.
