General Review for FFXIV, no specific expansions

Dawntrail's just on the horizon, so I thought I'd take a minute to reflect on first playing this game. I think this was technically my first Final Fantasy game. I've been playing MMOs since I was old enough to have video game literacy, and this just seemed like the natural next step after I felt like I got through enough of Wizard101, Wildstar, Mabinogi... list goes on. The only real complaint I have is I hate subscriptions, and that if you don't have a custom launcher, the download for this game will take five years. It's insane. But I love it.

I'm at a point in the game where I've sunk nearly 500 hours, which compared to other players isn't a whole lot, especially since most of that was waiting to queue when Endwalker came out. Even though I've spent so much time on this game, I feel like there's always something else to do. There's no rush, either-- you can really go at your own pace. For example, there were a couple months where I only played PVP, rather than continuing the story.

Free companies are cool, too. I have one for just me and my friends, but I will never forget the first FC that invited me in because they wanted numbers and I was a noob. Still have people on my friends list from that FC.

Don't even get me started on the playerbase! I've genuinely never met kinder people on a video game. Everyone is so kind and friendly. Sure, every MMO is gonna have their freaks, but even then, they seem to stay in their own lane, and when you're doing a Duty, it doesn't even matter.

Love the combat here. There are so many numbers to keep track of and it makes my monkey brain so happy. I play a dancer most of the time and it's legitimately like keeping a rhythm lol.

Love this game. ARR was difficult to get through, but rewarding in the end. Don't give up on this game!
