this is not a review but a (probably dumb) question
do I actually need online to play this? if the servers are no longer running does it make the game unplayable? I ask because I am interested on trying out the series but that factor kinda makes me doubt if I want to buy this
The GameCube version lets you play offline right out of the box without ever connecting online, no hassle whatsoever. The Xbox version requires you to have an Xbox Live gamertag saved to the console, which, fair warning, is not particularly simple to do. But it can also be played offline once you've satisfied that requirement one way or another.
As for what you can actually play offline, you can play the main stories of both Episode I and Episode II, as well as a decent amount of Episode I side quests. Unfortunately, basically all Episode II side quests are online only.
