Why do people choose to selectively forget that OG Strange Journey's Neutral ending was a pretty cut-and-dry happy ending while it was Redux that turned Neutral into a downer Sisyphean fate? I get it for Law and Chaos, but when the discourse arises on Redux's new endings, people seem to think that all of them became chirpier, while the reality is that Atlus, for once, decided to put Neutral's shortcomings of stagnation and the refusal to learn front and center.

The original neutral ending isn't exactly something I'd describe as a happy one, since the fate of humanity is ambiguous. The narration even says so at the end. It's not certain whether humans clean up their act after the schwarzwelt incident or if they continued to do the exact things the mothers hated them for, which is their tendency to be destructive and taking earth for granted.
