Disappointing! First old-fashioned FPS I've abandoned in quite a while, which is saying something considering I toughed out every Shadow Warrior and Quake 2 level earlier this year. I gave up about ten minutes into the second episode of this one when I found out I had twenty-two levels to go.

"Feels like a fake video game people on a TV show would play" is a well-worn review trope at this point, but this shit really does feel focus-tested to leave the the weakest possible impression. Jumping (but not bunny hopping...) around unlandmarked primary-colour high fantasy environments while a voice says stuff like "you are the chosen champion of divine fate..." practically sends you to sleep at some points, and that's even before you reach the gunplay.

As someone else astutely pointed out, this is a game where a rocket launcher shooting planets somehow feels boring as shit. There's seemingly no heirarchy of weapon effectiveness, so most of the time you just end up shooting whatever weapon the game has auto-chosen for you until the RTX Enabled(R) blue sparks fade away. Then you can get back to trying to work out whether this hallway is the same one you just ran down or a copy-paste of a previous section. Halo 1 vibes!!

Real shame this didn't jive with me, because I wanted another chunky hunky Quake-like game to play. Maybe this is the push I need to download Arcane Dimensions instead!
