oh wow, I didn't expect to abandon this game but here we are
I love the idea of this game. Alienes are invading our planet, countries can't establish a good countermeasure, a secret organization is trying to protect the earth but it needs funds from all the countries... If you don't help a country, they will withdraw from the project and will no longer pay for your services. So you need to make some difficult decisions when your soldiers are wounded, but some country gets invaded...
And if you run out of funds, the game is over.
It all sounds great, but god damn, this is stressful. Like IRL, you can't please everybody and eventually, you will lose some countries, which is great, I love it when you can't have it all. So you gotta chose the countries that you want to protect and spend some shomeny on it - either for your soldiers or some satellites or other passive protection systems. What I didn't like tho, is the not-so-clear protection systems that you can get. Should you just keep buying satellites? Maybe jets to protect them? Upgrade the weapons of the jets? Maybe fuck it and invest in soldiers? Maybe invest in upgrading your base? They are so many options but yet, but it feels like there is just one good strategy, and the rest is not so profitable. But everything is expensive so you gotta know where to invest into.
So, I was really excited about the base-building aspect of this game. I found it the most interesting, and in a way, I'm not disappointed or even amazed. But I still feel like there are too many options that don't do much, everything is kinda expensive and some base customization would be welcome
Regarding the fighting aspect of this game - it's fun. Customizing your squat is fun, losing a member sux but in a good way, tactics are fun and overall the fighting is fun. BUT, I don't like how slow it is sometimes. If you wanna do it right, you gotta spend turns waiting for your other squad members, then reload everybody, set them up, and so on.... And that could take 3-5 turns, which is kinda a lot
Overall great game, I really enjoyed that and the balls it has to end the game at any point. But I wish the priorities were explained better
